Four high school senior guards — three from Texas — have signed national women’s basketball letters of intent with Kansas University.
The Texans are CeCe Harper of San Antonio, Keena Mays of Arlington and Diara Moore of Cedar Hill. Brooke Jelniker of Highlands Ranch, Colo., is the other signee.
“This is a tremendous group of playmakers,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “I think all four will fit well into our up-tempo style of offense.”
The 5-foot-8 Harper, who attends Madison High, is a former prep and AAU teammate of current KU freshman Monica Engelman. Harper averaged 17.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a junior.
The 6-1 Jelniker averaged 14 points and six rebounds as a junior at Thunder Ridge High, earning first-team all-conference honors.
The 5-7 Mays is the highest-rated signee, coming in at No. 61 overall by HoopGurlz.com. Mays averaged 10 points and three assists per game as a junior at Timberview High. She was named District 8-4A Offensive Player of the Year.
The 5-9 Moore helped lead Cedar Hill High to a 25-7 record last winter while averaging 13 points and four assists a game.
