Hidden Valley Camp sets cleanup day

The annual Hidden Valley Camp fall workday will be Sunday.
Volunteers are needed from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to help with native woods restoration, including removal of invasive honeysuckle shrubs using chainsaws, loppers and poppers. Other tasks will include cutting firewood, stocking woodpiles, hauling and burning brush, planting, mulching and more. Most hand tools will be provided.
Volunteers should wear durable clothing for working in the woods and bring a water bottle or cup. Refreshments, including s’mores, will be provided. For more information or to sign up, call or e-mail Durand Reiber, 841-3567 or durandi@sunflower.com
Immediate needs
• Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community needs help the week of Nov. 15-21. Volunteers are needed to give manicures from 10:15 a.m. until noon Nov. 16, to call bingo games from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19, and to play parcheesi or UNO from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 20.

• The Roger Hill Volunteer Center has several volunteer opportunities for families coming up. Family Volunteer Day is Saturday, Nov. 21, and volunteers are needed for projects at Schwegler School, Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community, and Stepping Stones Daycare. The service projects will be going on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and children of all ages are welcome. For more information, contact Emily Hampton at programs@rhvc.org or 865-5030.
• The Lawrence Arts Center is seeking elves for its Holiday Shop, an annual event that gives children the opportunity to come in and shop with “Holiday Dollars” for gifts for their families. The job of the elves is to help the kids pick out gifts, wrap them if needed and count out the dollars to “pay” for the gifts. About 50 volunteer elves are needed for each shift: 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11; and 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.
