Why LHS Students Drop Out, by Christian Delg

There are three reasons why I believe students drop out of school. The parents do not care about their education, so they do whatever they want. One teacher can make them angry and upset in some ways. Then the last one is they really have no motivation for school at all. These are my opinions on why kids drop out of Lawrence High School.
Some kids have parents that are either too busy or don’t want anything to do with what they have going on in school. This can sometimes lead into bad things like alcohol and drugs. The reason I say this is because most kids who have parents that don’t care just do anything they want. They can slip into the wrong crowd and get into more trouble. They feel like they would rather just smoke or drink all day than learn. The first step in dropping out of school is some guardian has to sign a paper saying they can. That’s why I say the parents not caring are a big influence on dropping out of school.
Another reason why I believe kids drop out of Lawrence High School is that just one teacher can make them feel horrible. Sometimes a student isn’t the smartest in the classroom and the teacher makes them out to be the dumbest. In another sense, all their teachers are boring to them and they cannot stand their classes. Most teachers tell us to write notes and lecture us on the subject in a boring way. The student that hates it the most will get tired of it from years of doing it and finally decides to do something about it. These are all things that a teacher can do to cause a student to drop out of high school.
The final thing that describes why kids drop out of Lawrence high is that they have no self motivation to finish high school. This can go back to the parents not taking an interest in their school work. If a parent doesn’t take an interest in their school work or doesn’t pay attention at all it can cause them to give up on life basically. They have already got college out of their head and don’t want to go to school for one more day. This can also happen because the kid often gets picked on at school or has no friends. These are all the reasons why having no self motivation is a big part of school dropouts at Lawrence High School.
In all honesty I don’t really think there is anything anyone to do to keep kids in school. There are always going to be dropouts. I think once the economy is more stable again people might stay in school. I think this because if kids see that the economy is this bad they think they are not going to get a job no matter what because it is so bad. So they give up on going to college or even finishing high school. So after everything is better kids will see that they can get a good job if they finish high school. The reason why I don’t think there is anything anyone can do to help is because most kids that drop out just don’t want to go to school at all. I hope this opinion can shine some new light on things.
