Julius Washington, 21, is accused of having the firearm Sept. 23, 2009, in Lawrence.
The man was convicted in Douglas County of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for his role in a June 2008 call of shots fired outside the Kwik Shop at 19th and Massachusetts streets.
He was ordered to serve 19 months in prison for the crime.
Washington faces 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the new charge, prosecutors said.
