The nonprofit Friends of the Kaw organization will have its annual fundraiser next week in Lenexa.
The ninth annual dinner and silent auction will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at Café Augusta, 12122 W. 87th St. Parkway.
Proceeds from the event will support the organization, which advocates for protection and preservation of the Kansas River. Wakefield Dort, a geology professor emeritus at Kansas University, will be the guest speaker.
Tickets are $40, and more information is available by calling 866-RIV-KEEP or online at www.kansasriver.org.
The grassroots environmental organization sponsors the Kansas Riverkeeper, currently Laura Calwell, who works as a full-time advocate and as a teacher, scientist and investigator.
