The Free State Brewing Co. in Lawrence earned the Restaurant Neighbor Award in the medium business category from the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association on Aug. 26.
The program was created by the National Restaurant Association and American Express to highlight restaurants’ community service and charitable efforts.
The award honors charitable contributions of restaurants in four categories: small business, medium business, national corporate and Cornerstone Humanitarian of the Year.
In celebrating its 20th anniversary, Free State, 636 Mass., donated proceeds from an entire day’s sales to Lawrence’s oldest community service organization, the Social Service League. Free State Brewing is also instrumental in organizing Lawrence restaurants for fundraising efforts.
