November 1, 2009

Lawrence Sertoma Club announced Martha Parker will receive the Service to Mankind Award.

In recognition of Parker’s efforts to preserve the rich history of the Wakarusa Valley, a reception honoring Parker will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.

The public is invited to attend. Program will begin at 6 p.m.

Parker is best known for work to preserve the history and buildings around the construction of Clinton Lake. Her efforts preserved the building that now houses the Wakarusa River Valley Heritage Museum, formerly the Clinton Lake Museum, of which she currently serves as the director.

Parker is a graduate of Lawrence High School and Kansas State University. She is a former teacher and has been inducted into Lawrence High School Hall of Honor.
