Lions’ Rea, Minnis all-state in baseball

Lawrence High shortstop Aaron Rea and pitcher Albert Minnis both were named first-team all-state Thursday.

Joining Rea and Minnis on the all-state squads were Free State’s Ryan Scott (first-team pitcher) and Cody Kukuk (second-team first baseman).

LHS coach Brad Stoll was named co-coach of the year for guiding the Lions to an 18-4 record.

Stoll was joined by Maize’s Rocky Helm.

LHS seniors Dorian Green and Andy Urban earned honorable mention.

Also released Thursday were the All-Sunflower League teams, which included eight Lions and three Firebirds.

Rea and Stoll were named Sunflower League player and coach of the year and were joined on the squad by Minnis (first-team pitcher), Clint Pinnick (first-team third baseman), Green (second-team pitcher) and Urban (second-team pitcher).

Seniors Tyler Bailey and Jake Green were honorable mention picks.

Free State was represented by Scott (first-team pitcher), Kukuk (first-team first baseman and second-team pitcher) and junior Connor Stremel (second-team outfielder).
