Chautauqua comes to Ottawa this year

Franklin D. Roosevelt, famous for his New Deal during the Great Depression, will be offering advice about revitalizing the current economy when Chautauqua comes to Ottawa June 3-7 and Hesston June 10-14.

Visitors can attend the Chautauqua, which was in Lawrence last year, and ask questions of scholars portraying famous figures from the 1930s, including Roosevelt, Senator Huey Long of Louisiana, Pentecostal leader Aimee Semple McPherson, Harlem Renaissance writer and folklorist Zora Neale Hurston, and humorist Will Rogers.

Daily workshops for adults and children, a Youth Chautauqua day camp, and special history events will also be offered throughout the community. The event will spend one week in Ottawa before moving to Hesston for another week.
