Chair exercise volunteer needed

Vermont Towers needs someone to lead chair exercises for the elderly from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The class focuses on low-impact balance and strength-building exercises, and training will be provided. Immediate needs

• Health Care Access Clinic is in need of volunteers to help with the upcoming Rock, Chalk … Run! This fundraising event will be held on Saturday, June 13, and will feature 10K and 5K races. Both races start and finish at Clinton State Park Campground No. 3. Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions on race day in addition to some pre-race projects. • Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to serve as substitute drivers for the summer. Volunteers will deliver approximately seven meals on a route to senior citizens living throughout the Lawrence area. If you are available to help, contact 4mealsonwheels@sbcglobal.net.

• Want to spend a year making an impact in your community? Apply to be an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer right here in Lawrence! Through Volunteers in Service to America you can help develop programs on disaster preparedness at the health department or Roger Hill Volunteer Center. Train to be on the Community Emergency Response Team and work with community-based organizations to lead Kansas in preparing vulnerable populations for disasters. • The Lawrence Arts Center needs approximately 100 volunteers on the evening of Saturday, June 13, to assist with the Ball D’Artes 2009: Divas and Gentes. The event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight, and there are three different volunteer shifts — 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., and 9 p.m. to midnight. Volunteers may work more than one shift. Jobs include food servers, table busers, bar attendants, event setup and break-down, and silent auction attendants. For more information, contact Sandy Sanders at lacdev@sunflower.com.
