Buy back government

To the editor:

Are “we the people” in charge of our government these days? National health insurance is the best answer for our country. Facts do bear this out, and it is the preference of a majority of U.S. citizens. Does this sway big businesses who stand to lose profits? Whaddya think?

Sen. Dick Durbin said recently that the banks own Congress. Shocking but really only news because he heroically broke ranks and said it out loud. People have long wondered if the banks and other large business interests own Congress. Seems kinda obvious sometimes, every day lately.

In his last address as president, Dwight D. Eisenhower warned the people about the defense industry getting too strong and, well, that’s been awhile. If “we the people” are no longer represented by our representatives are we still a democracy? Whaddya think?

Until we regain representation in Congress, we will receive only scraps from that luxe banquet table high above. I’m betting President Obama and his “team” are the best chance this country has had in awhile to fix this biggest problem.

I say, let’s go shopping! Let us the people help the president buy our country back! Heck, there’s a lot more of us than them, and as y’all know, shopping stimulates the economy.

Let’s start with us buying the campaigns instead of GM and Bank of America. That and just little more reform would bring us back to … democracy!
