Final events of year set for area schools

Soon, the lazy days of summer will be enjoyed by all Lawrence school children.

The school year at Lawrence public schools, Bishop Seabury Academy and Veritas Christian School is coming to a close.

Bishop Seabury students will be on summer break first, with the last full day of school being today. But high school students will have to return for finals Monday to Wednesday.

Veritas students’ last day is a half day on May 22, the same day as their graduation ceremony.

Lawrence High and Free State High seniors will be done with their high school careers on May 22 and graduate the following Sunday. Students in kindergarten through 11th grade will have to come back after Memorial Day to finish the school year.

Here’s the entire schedule for the final days of the 2008-2009 school year in Law-rence.

Bishop Seabury Academy

Today — Last full day of classes.

Monday-Wednesday — Finals.

May 22 — Graduation at 9 a.m. at the school, 4120 Clinton Parkway.

Veritas Christian School

May 22 — Last day of classes (half day).

Graduation at 6:30 p.m. May 22 at Stony Point Hall, 1514 N. 600 Road, Baldwin City.

Lawrence public schools

May 22 — Last day for high school seniors.

May 24 — Graduation at Memorial Stadium. Lawrence High’s ceremony begins at 1 p.m. and Free State’s will start at 4 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the commencements will be in each school’s gymnasium.

May 26 — Last day for grades seven through nine.

May 27 — Last day for grades K-six, and last day of finals for grades 10 and 11.
