Soccer showdown hits new turf

At 4 p.m. today, the Lawrence High girls soccer team will play host to Free State in what will go down as the first official competition on the new turf at the Lions’ on-campus football field.

The game originally was scheduled for April 7 at Youth Sports Inc., but was moved to today to break in the new turf.

The Lions enter at 6-7, while the Firebirds are 5-8-2.

FSHS plays its last regular-season game today. LHS wraps up its regular season at Topeka High on Friday. Both teams will compete at regionals next week. Pairings will be released Saturday.
