True to faith

To the editor:

Professor Mary Ann Glendon’s refusal to accept Notre Dame’s highest honor is both principled and courageous. She does not object to President Obama speaking at Notre Dame; she objects to the nation’s top Catholic university honoring a person who has a radical pro-abortion record.

Bill Skepnek’s recent letter to the editor stated: “She refuses because Notre Dame has chosen a graduation speaker who has favored choice.” This clearly mistakes Glendon’s position and grossly understates Obama’s pro-abortion record. Most pro-choice Americans support reasonable restrictions on abortion (e.g. parental notification) and oppose radical procedures such as partial birth abortion. Obama supports partial birth abortion and has not publicly supported any reasonable restrictions. It is a disgrace that Notre Dame will give Obama an honorary degree. Mr. Skepnek was totally wrong when he said Obama is not an abortion advocate!

Skepnek’s description of Obama as merely someone “who has favored choice” is a classic example of how otherwise intelligent and reasonable people are blind to Obama’s radical and corrupt history. I will discuss his radical and corrupt history another day.

Scott Burkhart’s letter to the editor on May 6 stated my views perfectly when he stated, “Mary Ann Glendon is standing on principle, principles that are the bedrock of our faith. One of those principals is that a human life begins at conception. To end that life artificially is murder.”

So I say stand up and applaud Professor Glendon for she is true to her faith and is very principled!
