Free State baseball upends Falcons

A three-run fifth inning propelled Free State High’s baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Olathe South on Friday.

Tyler Hatesohl’s two-run double down the third-base line was the key hit on a day pitchers Hayden Emerson and Ryan Scott shut down South on seven hits. Emerson allowed three hits in three innings, Scott two the rest of the way.

“It was a gutty performance,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said. “The kids rallied. We beat one of the league’s best pitchers, Keith Picht, of South.

“I’m pleased with the effort and happy for Tyler. … We are finding ways to get it done.”

Free State, 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the Sunflower League, will meet Savannah, Mo., at 12:30 p.m. today at Kansas City 3&2 fields.
