FSHS baseball roughs up SMN

? Rob Wagner limited Shawnee Mission North to six hits over six innings, and Free State banged out 11 hits in a 14-3 high school baseball victory Thursday over the Indians.

“Rob did a nice job of mixing multiple pitches,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said of Wagner (2-0). “We’re pleased with his effort on the mound.”

He was similarly pleased with the Firebirds’ showing at the plate.

Cody Kukuk led the way with a 3-for-4 night, including a triple, home run and four RBIs. Ryan Scott was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.

“It was nice to be in a game where we had some breathing room,” Hill said. “(SM North) was up 3-1 in the third, but I was pleased with the way the kids kept their composure and relaxed. We hit the ball exceptionally well for us. We’ve struggled some offensively this season, but tonight even our outs were hard-hit outs.”
