Letter carriers plan to collect food donations

The 17th annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp out Hunger” food drive will be Saturday.

To participate, leave nonperishable goods next to your mailbox and local postal workers will collect the food items while completing their mail routes.

All food will then be donated to local food pantries. In Lawrence, the food will be distributed to Trinity Episcopal Church, East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp., The Leo Center, Ballard Community Services and The Salvation Army.

The food drive will take place only in locations with city carriers.

Last year, letter carriers across the country collected 73.1 million tons of nonperishable goods. Lawrence letter carriers collected 10 tons for last year’s drive.
