The Dole Institute of Politics will host an event linking Lawrence and Baghdad on Sunday.
The two-part “Iraq: What Next?” event will hook up participants from Lawrence with people in Baghdad by video teleconference.
The first part of the program is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and features students from Baghdad University, Northwest Missouri State University, Kansas State University and Wichita State University in a discussion on issues facing young people on a global level.
The second part of the program, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., features senior military and Iraqi officials in conversation with Kansas political figures.
Panelists joining from Baghdad include Maj. Gen. David Perkins, director of strategic effects for the Multi-National Force — Iraq; Ali al-Dabbagh, spokesman for the government of Iraq; U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Adam Ereli; and Maj. Gen. Qassim Atta, military spokesman for the government of Iraq.
Both sessions are free and open to the public and will include time for questions. The events will take place in the Simons Media Room at the Dole Institute.
