Positive plunge

To the editor:

On behalf of Special Olympics of Kansas, we would like to thank all of the volunteers and plungers who participated in the first annual Lawrence Polar Plunge held on Feb. 28 at Bloomington Beach. Fifty-four plungers faced inches of snow and freezing winds to raise a total of $8,767 for Special Olympic athletes. Lawrence set a new record for a first-year plunge, raising an average of $162 per plunger.

We would also like to thank our sponsors for donating to the plunge, and extend our gratitude to area Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run agencies for their increasing participation and the Army Corps of Engineers for allowing us to use Clinton Lake.

Again, thank you to our participants and sponsors. We hope to see you again next year!

Luke Schulte,
Special Olympics of Kansas
