— Lawrence High’s Emma Reaney set a pair of school records, and the Lions won the Emporia Invitational swim meet Thursday.

Reaney broke a 16-year-old record while winning the 100 breastroke in a time of 1:04.80 and also set a LHS record in the 200 individual medley in a first-place time of 2:04.02.

The Lions won the seven-team meet with 448 points, followed by Manhattan with 421 and Free State with 410.

“Winning the meet always is a good thing,” LHS coach Kent McDonald said. “We’ve got a good group of swimmers. We’re not as large as last year, but they’re good swimmers they’re hard workers.”

Claiming first-place finishes for Free State were Molly Albrecht in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Chloe Portela in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and Morgan Flannigan in the 100 freestyle.

Reaney and LHS teammate Elle Weber placed 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.
