Deadline for caregiving class is today

Kansas Advocates for Better Care is offering a training class for caregivers.

The “Building Blocks for Caregiving” class will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 3 in the second-floor auditorium of the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, 200 Maine.

Tammy Willits, of QualiCare Pharmacy in Lawrence, will give a presentation called “Understanding Older Adults and Medications.” She will talk about how to understand different types of medications used to treat illnesses associated with aging, their appropriate uses, interactions or reactions to watch out for, and who to ask when you have questions.

Heather Generali, registered dietitian at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, will talk about “The Basics of Life: Food & Drink.” She will talk about how to use daily meals and snacks for wellness, prevention and treatment, ideas to meet the needs of elders experiencing nutritional challenges, and the basics of calorie and liquid intake for maintaining healthy functioning.
