Boys and Girls Club plan week of activities

National Boys and Girls Club Week is this week, and the Lawrence chapter is hosting events to celebrate.

Members will clean up parks in their area Monday as part of the Boys and Girls Club Torch Club Park Clean Up.

Fifth- and sixth-graders will research and cook a recipe Tuesday for Kids Can Cook.

A Boys and Girls Club Kids Art Auction will be Wednesday at Douglas County Bank, 300 W. Ninth St., from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Families and community members will have the opportunity to bid on art pieces created by children in the program.

Each site will send a representative to Cordley School on Thursday to compete in the Boys and Girls Club Spelling Bee.

Third- through sixth-graders can take part in a three-on-three basketball tournament at West Junior High from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Kids will form their own teams and compete against teams from all Boys and Girls Club sites.

The final event Saturday will be a dodgeball tournament at Holcom Recreational Building from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Seventh-graders through teenagers are invited to participate. The cost is $5 per person.
