Portion of U.S. 59 to be closed next week

Drivers heading just south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59 should expect lengthy delays Monday and Tuesday.

Weather permitting, utility relocation work will begin on Monday on the northbound land of U.S. 59 at the intersection with North 1000 Road. Both directions of traffic will be affected.

Motorists could see delays up to 15 minutes and start-and-stop traffic. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone and advance signs will alert drivers to the delays.

The Kansas Department of Transportation encourages drivers to find alternate routes and check updated traffic alerts at 511.ksdot.org.

The work, which should take two days, is part of the highway realignment project for U.S. 59.

KDOT reminds motorists to be alert, obey warning signs and slow down when driving through work zones.
