A Kansas University junior from Oskaloosa is the new Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade Queen.

Taylor King, 20, received the crown during a queen pageant Sunday night at the Flamingo Club, 501 Ninth St. She was one of seven candidates.

The queen candidates take part in publicity and fundraising events for the annual St. Patrick’s Day activities. The parade committee selects the queen based on the candidates’ involvement in obtaining charitable contributions, assisting with parade activities and overall personality.

King will ride in the March 17 downtown Lawrence parade along with the other candidates who will be participating as her court.
