Investigation continues into KU freshman’s death at fraternity

Few details emerged Monday about a Kansas University freshman’s death Sunday inside Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house.

Jason Christopher Wren, 19, was found dead shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the fraternity, 1301 West Campus Road.

The pre-business major was from Littleton, Colo., and a midfielder on the KU Men’s Lacrosse Club.

Multiple officers and paramedics responded to the house, after Lawrence police said someone found the fraternity member unresponsive. Capt. Ray Urbanek said Wren went to bed Saturday night and did not wake up.

Foul play was not immediately suspected in the death, police said, though detectives were still investigating.

The Shawnee County Coroner’s Office in Topeka said Monday that it had completed an autopsy on Wren, but refused to release results. Lawrence police said they were awaiting the results.

A statement on the fraternity’s national Web site said, “The organization is working with university and law enforcement officials to gather more details.”

Fraternity members did not return calls for further comment.

KU spokeswoman Jill Jess said services for Wren are pending.
