Area gardeners will have a chance to buy compost from the city of Lawrence this week.

The city’s Solid Waste Division will sell the organic material Thursday through Saturday. The first two days of the sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The final day of the sale is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but could end early if supplies are depleted. The sale will take place at the city’s Wood Recovery and Composting Facility, 1420 E. 11th St., which is just east of 11th Street and Haskell Avenue.

City crews will sell the compost for $10 per truckload. Smaller quantities are available for free, if participants load the material themselves.

The compost is made from the weekly collection of residential yard trimmings. The material is used by gardeners to improve the quality of soil.
