— Free State High’s girls bowling team placed eighth of out nine teams with 2,056 pins at Friday’s Class 6A state tournament at Olathe East Lanes.

Amelia Firns-Hubert (534 series) led the way for the Firebirds. Following Firns-Hubert was Christina Picicci (519), Megan Bastemeyer (508), Gretel Briand (495), Michelle Schieffer (486) and Alyson Butler (333).

“They bowled above average as a team,” Free State coach Anita Carlson said. “The competition was tough, but they kept their composure. It was our first time at state and a new experience. They did well.”

Lawrence High’s Danielle Husted competed individually and bowled a 564 series.

Fresh off of last week’s regional championship, the Lawrence High boys bowling team will make its bid for the Class 6A state bowling title at 10 this morning in Olathe.

Tyler Bailey, Chad Boyd, Tanner Kilmer, Josh Russell, Matt Weber and Ben Wyatt will compete for the Lions.

Free State will be represented individually by Andrew Schoeneweis.

Anyone know what Danielle placed individually? Sounds like maybe somewhere in the 20's?
