Firefighter care

To the editor:

We would like to express our gratitude to the Lawrence-Douglas County firefighters who risked their lives fighting the fire that burned our rental house at 1946 Clifton Court on Feb. 20. They worked so hard to protect our tenant, control the huge blaze and keep the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

We deeply regret the injuries that firefighter Jim Thornton and Capt. Jim Saladin suffered, and we hope they have recovered. They will always have our utmost respect and gratitude. We are sorry for the anxiety this must have caused their families.

We all tend to complain about our property taxes, but our family can tell you first-hand that dollars cannot begin to pay for the high level of caring, bravery and professionalism that our city and county are blessed with when it comes to our courageous firefighters. We are in good hands. Thank you, Y Shift and all other personnel who watch over us in emergencies.

Susan and Stefano Pogany,
Lawrence
