A Lawrence police officer directs traffic east and west from Iowa Street at 15th Street after a natural gas line was broken Tuesday near Iowa Street and Stratford Road. Iowa Street was closed in the area for more than an hour. Curt Floerchinger, a spokesman for Black Hills Energy, said a construction crew struck the gas line. The incident happened just before 2 p.m.

Black Hills Energy workers examined a broken natural gas line near Iowa Street and Stratford Road that caused Iowa Street to be closed in the area for more than an hour Tuesday.

Curt Floerchinger, a Black Hills spokesman, said a construction crew in the area struck a gas line while using some boring machines. It happened just before 2 p.m.

The road has since been reopened.
