Harvard to restore FDR’s student suite

? Harvard University is planning to restore the luxury suite where Franklin Delano Roosevelt lived during his four years at the school.

The Boston Globe reports that the 600-square-foot suite will be the first campus memorial to the four-term president.

A benefit gala is planned Saturday to help raise the $250,000 needed to restore the suite where Roosevelt lived from 1900 to 1904.

The space has recently been used as a professor’s office and as dorm rooms.

No photographs exist of the suite as Roosevelt used it but experts say they can recreate it from letters Roosevelt wrote to his mother.

The suite was not typical of Harvard’s living quarters. It cost $400 per year, which was equal to a laborer’s annual wage.
