Nation off track

To the editor:

It is high time the citizens of this country regain their freedom and liberty. We have idly stood by and watched a slow-growing cancer attack our country. Our spirits have been drained of ingenuity and honest work. Freedom to fail has been replaced by a system of entitlements and handouts.

Between unfunded Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the national debt, Congress has committed future generations to pay a combined total of $100 trillion. This amounts to $330,000 per person. This has to be the greatest Ponzi scheme in the history of the world. If we ran our households like Congress, we would be in prison.

We citizens have failed the Founding Fathers of this country by allowing the Congress to become a collection of entrenched, selfish, greedy, above-the-law, serve-for-life, political parasites. Career politicians selfishly promote themselves over what is good for the country. This country was founded on the principle of being governed by its citizens, not career politicians.

We can reverse this trend by electing fellow citizens to do the work of the people. We need elected and appointed officials that will promote term limits. It doesn’t matter what party of political spectrum you ascribe to but rather the philosophy of what is best for the country. Why should the citizens of this country not demand term limits for their elected and appointed officials when the highest office in the land has a term limit of eight years.
