Safety hazard

To the editor:

It’s summer, and the roads and streets of the city are getting the repairs that they so badly need. But there is one part of the repair process that people don’t understand.

The black tar-like stuff the city uses to fill the cracks on the road, like on Sixth Street and Iowa Street, is like grease when it is hot or wet. Not a problem if you are in your car, but for a motorcycle, it can be scary.

As a motorcycle rider, I have to deal with it on a daily routine. People get upset at a motorcycle turning off of or on to these streets going slow and squaring the turn so as not to loose traction on the rear tire and drop the bike due to the “tar” being slick. I realize this is a necessary fix to the roads, but car drivers need to be more aware of the hazard it creates and be more tolerant of the motorcycle turning in front of them.
