Water problem

To the editor:

For those of us that live in Indian Hills and use 27th Street, there is always a water run-off problem at the Knollbrook development corner, which results in BIG chuck holes. The city is always busy with patching patching patching. Forget about washing your car!

Can’t the city or the developer do something to stop the water? The holes are a traffic hazard as we try to avoid the holes and the rough areas. Twenty-seventh Street at Alabama going east has the same problem: water eating out the pavement and patches patches patches. Something needs to be done — and then there is the problem of 27th being a speedway.

"speedway."

one reason people drive that way is because so many streets in lawrence have been intentionally designed by Merrill and others to slow down traffic. people just want to get across town. without the SLT, 23rd is overcrowded often.

please don't lobby to get Merrill's speed cushions or roundabouts in on 27th.

Traffic well over a mile from the nearest roundabout? Blame the roundabouts anyway! Or, there's the pop psychology that "if people could drive 40mph anywhere, they wouldn't do it on 27th". Not minding that people were driving 40mph or more on 27th 30 years ago.

You guys are keepers.

We need a roundabout at 31st and LA, a big one!

I will design the new roundabout for $10,000 and it will be a doozy, not like those boring ones. No, no need to thank me. You know, this would be an excellent opportunity to prove if homeless people want to work or not. The city puts forward a project to not just patch over potholes but to put in a new, durable surface. They train and hire the homeless to do this. Do you have any idea how much street work is kept "in the family"?
