Medicare assistance volunteers sought

Douglas County Senior Services is seeking volunteers who can educate and assist the public to make informed decisions about Medicare.

Volunteers would serve under the state’s Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Seniors program. SHICK volunteer counselors provide free, unbiased and confidential assistance to beneficiaries, their caregivers and others who have questions about Medicare.

The different areas people can volunteer in: comprehensive Medicare counselor, Medicare Part C/D counselor, call center operator, education and outreach volunteer, and an office assistant.

To learn about these volunteer opportunities, Senior Services is offering an informational meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the gallery room of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The deadline to sign up for training is Thursday and can be done at the informational meeting.

The training sessions will be June 23, June 24 and June 30. The amount of training depends on the area of volunteerism.
