Difficult choice

To the editor:

George Tiller has been referred to as a mass murderer and baby killer. I would like to mention that he did not break the law, recently found not guilty of 17 counts of misdemeanor. I am really saddened and repulsed concerning the idea of late-term abortion, but I think it is important to mention something that the news media has not explored. Specifically, you can not just indiscriminately have a late-term abortion in the state of Kansas. At least two medical professionals must agree that carrying the pregnancy to term would result in irreversible harm to the health of the mother.

I don’t know about you, but if any woman in my family was faced with the situation that her life may be endangered, an abortion would definitely be the choice, and I don’t really care what anyone else thinks. I have a hard time believing some women are so lazy or selfish as to wait to the last to decide on an abortion. I could be wrong, but logic dictates to me that these women dearly wanted a child but complications developed late that caused them to make such a hard decision.

I never met Dr. Tiller, but I don’t want to believe he was another Dr. Mengele, I want to believe he was a compassionate person who aided women with no place left to turn to make a very difficult decision. The media has mostly ignored this side of things. It is hypocritical to call yourself pro-life and then turn to such an action as his murder.
