Second swine flu case reported in Douglas County

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department announced Friday morning that a second Douglas County adult has tested positive for the swine flu virus.

The person was not hospitalized. The health department is conducting an investigation of the client, in which his or her close contacts are identified. Health education is being provided to assist in the person’s recovery and reduce the spread of disease.

As of Thursday, 95 cases of swine flu had been reported statewide.

The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of seasonal flu: fever greater than 100 degrees, body aches, coughing, sore throat and respiratory congestion. People who experience these symptoms should contact their health care provider.
