A fire broke out Wednesday evening at a chemicals plant in North Lawrence, the plant manager said.

Philip Brown, plant manager for ICL Performance Products, 440 N. Ninth St., said the plant’s “emergency response brigade” extinguished the fire in less than 20 minutes.

Brown said there was a small leak of raw materials and that plant officials were investigating the cause of the fire.

He said there was no hazard to the public as a result of the fire, which caused minimal property damage and no injuries.

The plant makes phosphoric acid and sodium phosphates for the food industry.
