Area agencies receive grants from foundation

The Kansas Health Foundation recently announced the recipients of its Recognition Grants. It provided $869,000 to help organizations across the state accomplish 55 projects that aim to improve the health and wellness of Kansans.

The grants range in size from $1,500 to $25,000.

Here is a list of the Lawrence-based organizations that received funding, how much the grant was worth and what it will be used for:

• Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, $25,000, to support an after-school program that incorporates physical activity and nutrition curriculum into the program.

• Lawrence Women’s Transitional Care Services, $21,173, to support a program for children who have witnessed domestic violence to learn how to express their feelings and tell their stories.

• GaDuGi SafeCenter, $15,000, to support a program for child and adult survivors of sexual violence to learn to express themselves through art.

• DCCCA, $5,125, to support a youth-led initiative in area schools on health behaviors, including physical fitness and nutrition.
