Doughnut Day unnaturally delicious

To quote Homer Simpson: “Mmmmm … doughnut.”

This Friday is the most American of holidays you’ve never heard of: National Doughnut Day.

The first Friday in June became the holiday of Homer in 1938, when the Chicago Salvation Army served free doughnuts in hopes of soliciting Depression-era donations according to www.holidayinsights.com.

Among the businesses partaking in this yummy and charitable tradition are Dunkin’ Donuts (free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage at participating locations, including Lawrence’s location at 521 W. 23rd St.) and LaMar’s Donuts in Kansas City, which will give away free Ray’s Original Glazed doughnuts on the day.
