County OKs funds to help clinic move

Douglas County commissioners Monday morning gave approval to using $96,266 to help the nonprofit Health Care Access clinic move to a larger building near Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Commissioners showed support for moving the funds from the Valley View Fund, which is money left from the Valley View Care Center, the county-operated nursing home that closed in the 1990s. The United Way of Douglas County currently rents the building, 2518 Ridge Court.

Craig Weinaug, the county’s administrator, said the transfer would still leave $100,000 in the fund for future renovations needed for the United Way building.

Health Care Access, the nonprofit organization that serves low-income people who do not have health insurance, is seeking funds to move its clinic from its longtime location at 1920 Moodie Road to a former medical office at 330 Maine.
