Two upcoming runs will benefit Women’s Transitional Care Services

Two upcoming events will benefit Women’s Transitional Care Services, a local organization that works to end violence against women and children.

The Lawrence chapter of the American Business Women’s Association is sponsoring its first “Women Moving Forward 5K” run or walk in Lawrence.

The goal is to promote health and fitness among women, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to WTCS. The event begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 at Lyons Park, 700 Lyon St. in North Lawrence.

The cost is $30 for people who register before Sept. 5 and $35 after that date. Four people can register as a team and the cost is $100. The walk is $10 per family.

The association will have an information and sign-up table from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Crown Automotive, 3400 S. Iowa. People also can learn more or register, by clicking on www.lenabwa.org/5k

The second benefit event — the fourth annual Women Opening Doors for Women run — begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 10 and includes a stroller-friendly 5K and one-mile run.

It will be followed by a reception at Body Boutique, 2330 Yale Road, which also is hosting the run. The run begins at Body Boutique and goes through the West Lawrence area.

Last year’s race attracted nearly 300 entrants, and organizers say they hope to have at least 400 this year.

The cost for the 5K is $20 for one person or $35 for a couple, and $15 for the one-mile run. For more information, contact Tracey English, 749-2424, or by e-mail, tce1227@gmail.com.
