Head for the Cure is organizing a 5K run/walk on Sept. 13 to benefit the Chris Anthony Brain Tumor Research Fund. Volunteer duties include directing runners on the correct route, handing out water/food, helping with table setup and takedown, checking participants in, and helping with registration. Volunteers would need to arrive between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. and stay until 10 a.m.

Immediate needs

• The Salvation Army is still seeking volunteers for its “Christmas in July” fundraiser. The campaign runs through this Friday and Saturday at three locations: Checkers Foods, 2300 La., and the Hy-Vee Food Stores at 4000 W. Sixth St. and 3504 Clinton Parkway. • The United Way Priceless Garage Sale needs volunteers to help out on July 31 and Aug 1. Also needed are donations of gently used clothing, household goods, furniture and kitchen items to be sold.

Donations can be dropped off at the Eagles Lodge, 1803 W. Sixth St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. For more information, call 865-5030.
