Health Care Access has new director

Dr. David Goering is the new medical director at Health Care Access, a clinic that provides medical care for uninsured residents in Douglas County.

Goering, a hospitalist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, was named to the position after Dr. Bradley Phipps stepped down. Phipps, a Lawrence family physician, had served as director for nearly 20 years. Phipps will continue to provide care for clinic patients.

Goering will oversee the work of the nurse practitioner and staff, provide medical guidance, help facilitate volunteer providers and work to recruit more volunteers.

The clinic has about a dozen doctors, including Goering, who volunteer medical services on site. More than 100 doctors volunteer their services throughout the county.

Goering also serves on the clinic’s board of directors.

“He is very committed to Health Care Access and making sure people have a means to health care,” said Nikki King, executive director. “He really gives a lot of his time and that’s wonderful.”
