Wheel Genius: Road work this week
Lawrence
• Traffic on Ninth Street will face intermittent delays between Emery Road and Mississippi streets, as crews conduct patching work in preparation for a repaving project.
• The exit ramp onto Clinton Parkway for traffic headed east on Kansas Highway 10 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday for pavement repairs.
• Traffic heading south along Naismith Drive will be reduced to one lane between 18th and 23rd streets, for repaving. A single lane will be closed for traffic moving north, between 19th Terrace and 18th Street.
• Contractors will be placing signs and possibly conducting off-street work in preparation for reconstruction of the intersection of North Second and Locust streets in North Lawrence. Lane closures and detours are expected to take effect sometime during the week of July 27.
• Drivers may encounter brief periods of slow traffic as construction continues for a new U.S. Highway 59 between Lawrence and Ottawa.
• Traffic continues to be limited along streets adjacent to the construction site for The Oread, near the northeastern end of Kansas University’s main campus.
Douglas County
• Douglas County Road 438, also known as the Farmers’ Turnpike, is closed for reconstruction from the South Lawrence Trafficway to County Road 1029, which heads north toward Lecompton. A detour is available using the trafficway, U.S. Highway 40, and County Road 1029. The project is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving.
• Douglas County Road 1057 is closed for pavement reconstruction between Kansas Highway 10 and County Road 442, about midway between Lawrence and Eudora. The project is expected to last until mid-August.
• The Douglas County Road 1061 bridge that crosses the Kansas River, north of Eudora, will be down to one lane beginning Monday, for resurfacing work that is expected to last until Aug. 14. Temporary signals will direct traffic on the bridge, and delays will be expected to last for three minutes.
U.S. Highway 24
• Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction beginning Monday along U.S. Highway 24 in Topeka, first at its intersection with Kansas Avenue (Monday through Saturday) and then at Rochester Road (July 27-31). Daily work will begin with pavement being removed beginning at 4:30 p.m. and continue with new concrete being poured in the early mornings. Kansas Avenue and Rochester Road will be closed to through traffic at U.S. 24 for several daylong periods.
Interstate 435
• Traffic will face varying lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in both directions along Interstate 435 in Johnson County, from the Kansas River bridge to Interstate 35, for pavement repairs.
U.S. Highway 69
• Traffic along U.S. Highway 69 in Johnson County will face varying closures and delays, related to reconstruction work in areas along and adjacent to Interstates 35 and 435. For details, visit www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.
Kansas Highway 92
• A resurfacing project for 21.5 miles of Kansas Highway 92 — from the junction with Kansas Highways 16 in McLouth to 15th Street in the city of Leavenworth — is limiting traffic to get through the work zone with assistance from flaggers and pilot cars, leading to delays of up to 15 minutes. The project is expected to last into October.
U.S. Highway 73
• U.S. Highway 73 is reduced to one lane in each direction from Connie to Limit streets in Leavenworth County for repaving. The closures run from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, and the project has been scheduled to last into late July.
