Douglas County sheriff’s deputies plan DUI patrol

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies will be targeting drunken drivers and violators of other laws during a special saturation patrol Friday night, the sheriff’s office announced Monday.

“Sheriff’s deputies will be out in force from 7 p.m. Friday and into the early morning hours of Saturday,” Sgt. Steve Lewis, sheriff’s spokesman, said in a news release. “They will be monitoring compliance with all Kansas traffic laws.”

In addition to patrolling for impaired drivers, Lewis said deputies would be watching for speed limit violations, as well as improper use of seat belts and child restraints.

Deputies also will set up a check lane to help detect impaired drivers. No location was announced.
