To the editor:
While I do not “pride” myself on self-deception, honesty demands I admit to a high level of expertise in this area, (and to sincere efforts to address it). Hence I can understand the fear, or reluctance of many Americans to acknowledge the terrible harm done to our country under the criminal Bush Administration.
Last week, another high official in then-Prime Minister Blair’s inner circle admitted that Bush and Blair knew three months before the invasion that they would find no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. These two leaders then discussed how they could sell a war to the British and U.S. people. (http://www.leadingtowar.com/claims_facts.php).
On June 27, a conference was held at the National Press Club and aired on C-Span titled “Justice Department Prosecutorial Misconduct.” Speaker after distinguished speaker told about the politicization of the Bush Justice Department. It was shown how, nationwide, Democrats were targeted for fictitious crimes. Republicans were either not investigated for possible criminal behavior, or were slapped on the wrist.
A cancer has grown upon our body politic, upon our highest ideals over the last eight years. If we act as if nothing has happened (when the evidence screams that heinous crimes where committed against the very soul of this country), we risk becoming a country, an empire, such as what we revolted against 233 years ago. Investigate, investigate, investigate, and where crimes have been committed, prosecute, prosecute, prosecute!

Just because you don't agree with the Bush plan or "Obama plans", does not mean that it was a crime. Besides, the state department now is already involved in treasonable activities that should be investigated. Obama is no different than Bush, and they both are using the system to obtain the limits.
In four years, Obama and Hillary will be history and another will be in office. Bush might be his name. But you can bet, that Americans will of had enough of Obama and Hillary by then.

I don't know why Bush apologists won't acknowledge his misdeeds, but the are well known and numerous. Regardless, there will not be any serious investigation into them because the current powers that be plan on (and currently are) committing the same exact misdeeds of the Bush administration. There's not much difference between those two parties.

Why is Obama expanding the war is a good question considering that is not what the nation voted for. I say Bob Gates and Hillary might be good points to start.
merrill (anonymous) says…
Donald Rumsfeld and Bob Gates had no history of being peace folks not by a long shot. Folks should always go back and read about Watergate and Iran Contra. The CIA is one nasty group of people in which Gates spent 26 years. Rumsfeld eagerly lying about Iraq weapons stinks.
Bob Gates Level of involvement in the Iran-Contra scandal
Because of his senior status in the CIA, Gates was close to many figures who played significant roles in the Iran-Contra Affair and was in a position to have known of their activities. In 1984, as deputy director of CIA, Gates advocated that the U.S. initiate a bombing campaign against Nicaragua and that the U.S. do everything in its power short of direct military invasion of the country to remove the Sandinista government.[16] The evidence developed by Independent Counsel did not warrant indictment of Gates for his Iran-Contra activities or his responses to official inquiries.
Gates was an early subject of Independent Counsel's investigation, but the investigation of Gates intensified in the spring of 1991 as part of a larger inquiry into the Iran/contra activities of CIA officials. This investigation received an additional impetus in May 1991, when President George H.W. Bush nominated Gates to be Director of Central Intelligence (DCI). The chairman and vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI) requested, in a letter to the Independent Counsel on May 15, 1991, any information that would “significantly bear on the fitness” of Gates for the CIA post.
Gates consistently testified that he first heard on October 1, 1986, from Charles E. Allen, the national intelligence officer who was closest to the Iran initiative, that proceeds from the Iran arms sales may have been diverted to support the Contras.
Other evidence proves, however, that Gates received a report on the diversion during the summer of 1986 from DDI Richard Kerr.
The issue was whether the Independent Counsel could prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Gates was deliberately not telling the truth when he later claimed not to have remembered any reference to the diversion before meeting with Allen in October.
AS director of central intelligence and 26 years in the CIA Gates did not know? CIA are trained liars.

"I could see him this time next year being certified *THE* worst president ever in the history of the US."
Given the performance of his immediate predecessor, I think that title is out of reach.
"There needs to be a drive in the works now, a petition so to speak, to change the law to be able to recall a president."
There is a mechanism for removing the president, and it's called impeachment. There was never a more appropriate time for Congress to take that action than with Bush and Cheney. But, unfortunately, the Incumbent Party, both Republican and Democratic branches, will likely never allow that action to be taken again.
kugrad (anonymous) says…
Bush and Cheney's alleged crimes should be thoroughly investigated and they should be tried if violations are found. They should have been impeached. I know it is easy to dismiss impeachment as a) only politically motivated and b) looking backwards and not forwards, but those views don't stand scrutiny. Impeachment is the method by which future abuses are curbed. It is the check and balance against excessive executive power and/or the abuse of that power. It is necessary for a healthy government.
There is an almost surreal absurdity to justifying the persecution and impeachment Bill Clinton for lying about infidelity (which had nothing to do with governance and was purely a political)exercise) while arguing that a investigating Bush/Cheney would be only political despite their lying to Congress, the Unitied Nations, and the American people and the clear connection of their acts to their jobs. Clinton's impeachment was personal. The investigation of Bush and Cheney would benefit our country, not harm it. It is the duty of our government to take this hard look at those at the top.
We might have avoided the whole disaster that was the Bush/Cheney years if Bush Sr. and Reagan's roles in the Iran-Contra affair had been investigated instead of pushed under the rug as "harmful to America" and so forth. Yes they had hearings, but behind closed doors the Democrats caved
on actually investigating the popular president (it is safe to say now that the majority view is that they were totally involved and informed). Now, we are setting the stage for another disaster by failing to hold our leaders accountable. This can't be reduced to simple liberal vs conservative, as the simple-minded would like, this is how a healthy government is maintained.
Bush and Cheney should be investigated, not only for there misconduct surrounding the war, but for their political firings of US Attorneys, Cheney's role in the Plame affair, and more.

Yep, the Republican party "sells" itself as a pro-business, anti-tax party, but when they come into office, they wreak so much havoc that it takes years to clean up. But big business likes that, and they fund the Republican candidates, because that way they can be part of the destruction of our society as we know it --- see all the deregulation in Wall Street as an example. Those venerable institutions are not to be trusted. They don't just need to be regulated. They need to be bound and gagged.
