Government offices to close Friday for holiday

Government offices and public services in Lawrence and the area will be closed Friday in observance of Independence Day, because July 4 falls on Saturday this year.
All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.
Douglas County courts will be closed. Lawrence Municipal courts will be closed.
Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free Saturday.
Banks will be open Friday but closed Saturday.
Lawrence Transit System buses will not run on Saturday.
City of Lawrence refuse and trash collection will not be affected, and commercial solid waste routes will run both Friday and Saturday.
The South Park Recreation Center will be closed Friday and Saturday. All other city recreation centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and they will be closed Saturday.
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Friday.
Summer Playgrounds, Unified Day Camp, recreation and aquatic classes are canceled for Friday, but adult and youth sports league games will take place as scheduled as well as the Eco-Energy Adventure Camp.
Eagle Bend Golf Course will be open Saturday.
The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The South Park Wading Pool will be closed on Saturday.
Post offices in Lawrence will be open Friday, and carriers will make regular deliveries. The U.S. Postal Service will not operate on Saturday, and post offices will be closed.
Federal Express and UPS will not deliver on Saturday.
The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed Friday.
Senior Services of Douglas County, including the Lawrence Senior Center, will be closed.
Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver on Friday. The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen will serve meals on both Friday and Saturday.
Liquor stores will be open Saturday, but some might close early.
The Journal-World customer service department will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
