Kids should learn foreign language

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

Have you ever wondered if you should let your kids learn another language? Here is some information to help you answer that question. About 8 million kids in America spoke a foreign language at home in the year 2000. Research shows that in 2002 California is the number one state far kids that speak a foreign language.

In the long run this foreign language will help your child with jobs, relationships and understanding people from different countries. When your child is on a vacation to a different country, it may be easier for them to understand what other people are trying to tell them. When a person is visiting here from a different country they might not know the way around. So understanding their language will help you give them directions.

I want people to learn a foreign language for their own good.
