Helpful officer
To the editor:
I would like to send a thank you to an angel who rescued me last Thursday. He is a police officer of Lawrence, and I regret saying I didn’t get his name. He helped me out when the gas in my tank froze causing my car to stop running. I didn’t have anyone to call so I resorted to calling the Lawrence police station and they sent a patrol car right over.
I had my 15-month-old son with me and couldn’t walk to a gas station due to the freezing weather. This wonderful man took me to a gas station and back but when my car still wouldn’t start he was right there to take me back to my apartment. He suffered through the sad cries of my son the entire time and a frantic, cold mother with nowhere to turn.
I feel we as a society do not give enough credit to our police officers. I believe they go far beyond their duties to keep us safe and secure especially in these unsure times. So I would like to ask all those who read this letter to say thank you to the next police officer they see since I don’t know his name and eventually he will receive the gratitude he deserves. Thank you.
Megan Otey,
Lawrence
