Moran champions Cottonwood efforts
U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., will be in Lawrence this week to be honored as an AbilityOne Champion, recognizing his support for Lawrence-based Cottonwood Inc.’s participation in an employment program for people with developmental disabilities.
The award, from the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped, will be presented at 9 a.m. Friday at Cottonwood, 2801 W. 31st.
About 40 Cottonwood employees work on a contract to provide tie-down cargo straps for the Department of Defense, a deal up for renewal in May. Cottonwood has produced more than 4 million straps so far.
